Afghanistan defeats Bangladesh by 7 wickets to qualify for the Asia Cup Super Fours.

Afghanistan defeated Bangladesh by seven wickets in a Group B match thanks to disciplined bowling and clinical batting.

Afghanistan defeated Bangladesh by seven wickets in a Group B match at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, qualifying for the Asia Cup Super-Fours. Afghanistan became the first team to reach the Super Fours after winning back-to-back matches against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

Bangladesh batters struggled for most of the innings after winning the toss and electing to bat first on a dusty pitch with a fair amount of grip and turns.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman (3/16) and Rashid Khan (3/22) of Afghanistan bowled tight length and lines and spun their webs in the powerplay and middle overs, respectively.

Bangladesh were 89-6 when Mahmudullah (25 off 27) was dismissed in 15.4 overs, and it looked like they’d fold for less than 100. Mosaddek Hossain’s 31-ball 48 and Mehidy Hasan’s 12-ball 14 aided Bangladesh’s recovery and helped them reach a respectable total of 127/7 in 20 overs.

Chasing a respectable target, Najibullah Zadran (43 not out off 17) and Ibrahim Zadran (42 not out off 41) batted brilliantly to lead Afghanistan to a convincing win in 18.3 overs, with seven wickets in hand.

Aside from Najibullah and Ibrahim, Hazratullah Zazai also contributed significantly (23 off 26). Bangladesh’s wicket-takers were Mosaddek Hossain (1/12), Shakib Al Hasan (1/13), and Mohammad Saifuddin (1/27).

Brief scores: Afghanistan 131-3 in 18.3 overs (Najibullah Zadran 43, Ibrahim Zadran 42, Mosaddek Hossain 1/12) defeated Bangladesh 127/7 in 20 overs (Mosaddek Hossain 48, Mahmudullah 25, Mujeeb Ur Rahman 3/16, Rashid Khan 3/22).
